The most dangerous times during a flight are takeoff and landing, so you might notice the crew being increasingly attentive to what you’re doing during this time. Even with that said, flying is still safer than driving a car. The U.S. government studied the chances of dying in a car accident versus a plane crash, and the results were astronomically low for plane flyers! There’s about a 1% chance of dying in a car accident and .0001% chance of dying in a plane crash.

Does the Crew Sleep During the Flight?
We are happy to report that the crew does, in fact, sleep on flights. We can’t imagine staying awake for the entire duration of an cross-Atlantic flight! The flight attendants and crew have a a designated cabin on airplanes on many airplanes including the Boeing 777 and 787. Pilots get some special treatment: they get their own sleeping compartments.
