LaRue Martin – Community Services Manager At UPS
Everyone was excited to see how LaRue Martin would do in the NBA as the first overall pick in 1972. Unfortunately, four years later, his potential had not gone anywhere. He left the league and decided to take an entry-level position at UPS to pay the bills. It was a good thing that his patience and hard work paid off. In 2005, he became a Community Services Manager. Aside from the 9-5 job, he is also on the Board of Directors of the National Basketball Retired Players Association.
Oscar Robertson – An Advocate For Affordable Housing
This old-school basketball player had a very successful career. During his 14 years in the NBA, Oscar Robertson was a 12-time All-Star player and retired as one of the highest-scoring guards in the league. His most amazing accomplishment, however, was working to build affordable housing for the African-Americans in Indianapolis. His efforts have led to a great improvement in the community. In 2007, the University of Cincinnati awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. It was well-deserved!
