30. Katherine Heigl
Project: Valentine’s Day
Proposed Salary: $3 million*
Outcome: Walked away
The cast of Valentine’s Day comprised an excellent ensemble, including Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, Kathy Bates, and others. It was also extremely close to having Katherine Heigl. Still, the Grey’s Anatomy actress ultimately decided not to participate in the movie during the early phases of negotiations.
According to rumors, the Disney ABC beauty demanded $3 million to film the project, far more than her co-stars were willing to accept. Katherine did not appear in the film, but her representatives later described the claims as “ludicrous” and stated that she had decided not to participate in the project for “various reasons.”
31. Terrence Howard
Project: Iron Man 2
Proposed Salary: $7 million less than the previous movie*
Outcome: Terrence was fired when he fought back
Iron Man is one of Marvel’s most popular and lucrative movie characters now. Still, when Robert Downey Jr. signed on to play Tony Stark in 2008, he wasn’t paid a lot for the role of Tony Stark. By the second film, RDJ had gained confidence and demanded a significant increase in compensation, but there was one snag.
Disney sought to reduce co-star Terrence Howard’s income by more than $7 million to make up for the difference. In response, Terrence fought back, but he was sacked and replaced by Don Cheadle, who has since continued to perform the role of War Machine up until 2021.
