Cisitalia D46, designed by Dante Giacosa, incorporated some of the same components as the Fiat road cars of the time. Having designed Fiat’s pre-World War II masterpiece, the 500 Fiat Topolino, Giacosa already had a good understanding of the components.

A conventional rear-wheel drive car, the first Gmund model featured a mid-engine concept. However, the engineers had moved the engine to the rear by the time the second version was released. The 356 hardtop coupé could have been launched in 1948 for 3,750 US dollars (45,000 US dollars today). However, the value has increased significantly since the late 1940s.
