The 1600 GT was originally called the Glas 1300 GT and was produced in 1966 by Hans Glas, a German manufacturer. It only became famous when BMW bought out its competitor. The rear axle, transmission and engine of the 1600-2 GT were carried over from its predecessor, but the body was modified slightly.
